2010 PROVINCIAL LONG WEEKEND IN CORNWALL

This year's long weekend (Friday 9th April - Monday 12th April) saw a 50+ strong party of Provincial Officers and their wives embark on the coach for Falmouth in Cornwall. Once again the weekend was brilliantly organised ny Charles Bailey and his wife Jo. There was certainly no compromise on the high standard of travel, accomodation and catering enjoyed on previous weekends.

We arrived arrived around teatime at the Falmouth Hotel which is situated right on the coast. On our way down we stopped for a pie and a pint  at the Jamaica Inn on Bodmin Moor made famous by Daphne du Maurier. After a pleasant promenade along the seafront we settled down to dinner as members of "Mr Bailey's Masonic Group" - high honour indeed!

Saturday saw the majority of us visit the Eden Project which is situated in a former china claypit between Lostwithiel and St Austell. What a fascinating place it is and well worth a visit if you haven't been yet.  Saturday evening saw us say down to dinner again with another first-class menu on offer.

On Sunday we had a free day which many of us spent wandering around Falmouth town and seafront making sure we din't miss out on a pint of the local brew and forcing down plenty of hot ogies (Cornish pasties). For the non-gourmets amongst us there was also the option of Cornish cream teas. The highlight of the weekend came on Sunday night with our formal black tie dinner. Our guests of honour were R.W.Bro. Geoffrey Isaac, P.G.M. of the Mark Province of Cornwall together with his wife Christine. He was accompanied by his D.P.G.M. and Provincial Secretary with their wives. After an excellent dinner we were entertained by the cabaret act - Peter James and Charles Bailey! Their performance was beyond mere words so I shan't try. Many of their audience were somewhat concerned at the inordinate amount of time Peter spent sat on Charles' knee! The evening continued with a disco playing plenty of 60's music for the youngsters among us.

Back home on Monday with very happy memories of a tremendous weekend. Sincere thanks again Charles and Jo!
